Six members of the Spruce Pine Potters Market are donating their artwork for the 2026 sweepstakes. The contributing artists are Teresa Pietch, David Ross, Galen Sedberry, Joy Tanner, Valerie Schnaufer, and Liz Zlot Summerfield.
The Spruce Pine Potters Market Sweepstakes has supported various Mitchell and Yancey County nonprofits for over a decade through our sweepstakes! This year, our membership chose The Hive as our sweepstakes partner. Fifty percent of the sweepstakes proceeds will be donated to The Hive in Spruce Pine, NC. Read below to learn more about this wonderful after-school community program.

Serving Spruce Pine since 2021, The Hive is a drop-in afterschool program that nurtures connection, creativity, and belonging through hands-on programs like art, games, and field trips. Built on a foundation of trust and relationships, its core mission is to provide a safe, fun, and supportive space for youth to be themselves, build skills, and express themselves.
“The Hive operates in direct collaboration with the Spruce Pine Housing Authority, embedded within the housing complex itself. Our office, our volunteers, and our programs live where the residents live — and that proximity is the foundation of everything we do.
We are a community-driven program dedicated to serving the residents of the Spruce Pine Housing Authority. Our work is guided by the residents we serve. Using direct feedback, online surveys and email suggestions, we constantly revise and develop programs to provide the services our residents need and want the most.
The Hive began as a neighborhood-based creative community space, founded as a partnership between the Spruce Pine Housing Authority (SPHA) and Penland School of Craft.
The Hive is a youth and family community and resource center within the Walnut Avenue Apartments in Spruce Pine, NC, managed by the Spruce Pine Housing Authority. Our goal is to serve the apartment community through dynamic programs shaped in conversation with residents. We serve youth and families through after-school programming, teen leadership development activities, art workshops, gardening programs, community meals, field trips, and academic support.”
